History Cracker Barrel
The year was 1969. Dan Evins opened the first Cracker Barrel store in Lebanon, Tennessee particularly in the region near Interstate 40. It was established in connection with the plans he had to boost the sales of gasoline; he also was a Shell Oil representative at the time.
The idea was to create a restaurant serving traditional Southern dishes like grits, turnip greens and biscuits, and country ham, with the gift shop selling souvenirs and other products. In the year 1970, Cracker Barrel was incorporated as a company, followed by the company’s first public offering in the year 1981; the proceeds from shares were used to fund the company’s expansion plans. In the 1980s and 1990s, the company experienced steady growth, and by 2011, it had more than 600 stores across 42 states.
What They’re Famous For
Apart from the affordable Cracker Barrel rates and partnerships with country music artists, Cracker Barrel is an award-winning establishment. Some of its awards include Destination magazine’s honor as the top chain eatery, Zagat’s Top Breakfast award in 2010 and 2011, as well as Restaurants & Institutions magazine’s Best Family Dining award for 19 consecutive years. These awards are in recognition of the outstanding delivery of services and products including the food and beverages at the restaurants, the gift items available in the shop, as well in the service provided to customers.
